A Loving Heart, A Pure Mind

“You like designing, and also culinary, so you are a person that likes to try different fields?” “Yes, I am still a 'fresh meat (young man)' so I would like to try different things.” As we heard him describe himself as a 'fresh meat', gazing at his beaming and dazzling face, he seemed even cuter than before.
(Dressed in) A white T-shirt, and white sneakers, he who is sitting opposite of me is the 'Thai-Chinese mixed cutie' that many people admire. Of course, the 'little prince' image is not all of himself, more importantly, he has a loving heart. And that is the reason why he will have more activities in China, during the beginning of March, he was appointed the promotion ambassador of China's Children and Teenager Fund, and he will be doing a series of charity work, such as donating to the fund. In fact, Nichkhun had been doing similar work in Thailand before, he is also the ambassador of UNICEF Thailand, and visited underprivileged areas to help promote the education of children, and made food for them. In addition he told us that he has a friend who founded a fund in South Africa, which teaches children how to play basketball, and promote education, and he would often help out his friend with many things regarding the fund. “What I do are small things, since I can't do everything. So when I think of what I can do, and when I can do something for them, I always try my best to help them.” Nichkhun says, “It doesn't matter if you have money or not, charity work is something that is worth doing. It is a belief, to help those who are less fortunate than you.”
On the internet, someone has used these words to appraise Nichkhun: “Nichkhun completely matches the definition of a 'male god' (in other words, the perfect man), he has an enchantingly perfect face; a tip-top body that can make any man jealous; a warm and kind heart; outstanding talents that can captivate minds; and a naturally godlike temperament. When I read this sentence to him, he bashfully smiled like a child, and when we asked him which of these were the most important, he answered without hesitation, “(A kind) heart is the most important, just like how I would choose a girlfriend, it all comes down to her heart.”

ONLY! Spicy!

“Which Chinese dish is your favourite?” “Xiao chao rou (stir fried pork with chilli peppers)” (Laughs loudly after), “Huo guo! (hotpot)” “Hot pot? The spicy kind?” I was surprised, “ONLY! ONLY!” He emphasized by saying it twice, only spicy. The way he said xiao chao rou and huo guo was so down-to-earth, for a second it felt like he took off his divine halo, and turned into a very friendly, neighbourly young man. As mixed Thai-Chinese, Nichkhun moved from the US at the age of 2 with his parents, but his ethnic Chinese roots still connect him with Chinese culture. Loves huoguo, likes Hainan chicken rice, he even knows the web-term “Pipi xia (Mantis shrimp)”. When asked about Chinese, he wasn't shy about saying, “To learn Chinese well, probably the best way is to find a Chinese girlfriend, that's what all my teachers told me.”
In everyday life, he is energetic, loves sports, goes to the gym, plays golf, likes cooking, and cooks for himself at home, he also likes designing, draws a bit, sketches and doodles, “Although I can't really draw well now, perhaps I could be an artist in the future.” “If I didn't become an performer, I may have become a good chef.” As he finished, he laughed out loud once again.
Indeed he is still a 'fresh meat', and there are lots of possibilities in the future, who knows what could happen.

Q&A With Nichkhun

Q: You are of Thai-Chinese descent, and your mom and grandma are from Hainan. Will you come to China to further your career in 2017? Do you have any paths and plan?
A: I hope I come to China as much as possible, this year I have a Work that will be shot and broadcasted in China. Now, I am preparing for this Work. This year I want to have more cooperation with CCFT (China Children and Teenagers Foundation); and also, I want to do more charity to help more people in China, not only as a job.
Q: Do you have any plan on music?
A: Maybe I will release a single. I love acting, but I am also passionate for music, so I hope I can release a single.
Q: Will you compose by yourself? Which kind of music is your favorite?
A: I will try to do the best of my ability, but I am not sure whether I can do it well (laugh). I enjoy listening to all genres of music, but I listen to soothing music mostly, especially jazz.
Q: You have acted in "One and a Half Summer" and "Forever Young", did you portray yourself in those youth dramas? Did that have a big contrast with youself?
A: I think I was acting as myself, but I was not too familiar (with the role). I was always communicating with the scriptwriter and the director to learn more experience from them. Maybe the director chose me because I fit the role, so it was better to portray myself. It was like I was back in university when I was acting.

Q: Before you acted in different types of dramas, which kind of roles do you want to play in the future?
A: I want to act in some action movies; the previous works were all the same, I want to have some changes on my future work.
Q: Now let's talk about Thailand. What are your feelings about it? Do you have any places that you can recommend to us if we go to Thailand?
A: Thailand is my hometown. I have a lot of memories, a lot of relatives, but not a lot of friends, because I trained to play badminton when I was young. The Phuket Island and Pattaya are good places to go, there are lots of moving markets, and the street foods are pretty good.
Q: You have a good relationship with your family, do you have lots of time that you can spend with them? Do you show another side of yourself when you go back home? (Tell us what happens when you are home)
A: I spend a lot of time with my family. Before when I came to China, my family would come with me. And also, when I was filming the drama, my mom and grandma came as well. When I am with my family, I turn into a driver, a tour guide, to serve them, which makes me full of happiness.
Q: You always give people the impression that you are like a prince, do you think you are the thoughtful and gentle style or the bossy controlling style?
A: I think I am both, I am a person who is able to adapt to the environment very quickly. I left home since I was 12 years old, I can change myself according to the environment.
Q: How do you dispose negative emotions?
A: I have been in many adversities before, but I will tell myself I live well now, I could not let my family and my fans be disappointed in me. They give me the hope and energy to overcome adversity.
Q: Can you tell us which kind of girls will attract your attention? What kind of personality?
A: I like the thoughtful and warm girls. It would be better that she likes sports. And the most important thing is that she must have respect for the elders.
Q: At last, say something to your fans. Do you feel the enthusiasm from the Chinese fans?
A: Thank you for your patience in waiting for my comeback. Hope you all keep in good health and always be happy.
