[TRANS] ALLURE AUGUST ISSUE ’16 - JUN. K of 2PM INTERVIEW

image

He’s been an idol for 9 years, but the word “artist” suits this man better. Singer Jun. K is thoroughly creating his musical world as a singer-songwriter, producer, and 2PM’s main vocalist. Soon, he will come to us with his solo album. The music and time Jun. K has accumulated this far.
No Love. No Music. If there’s no love, there’s no music, too. As I listened to his solo song “No Love” that unravels like a majestic epic-like drama, I tried to imagine the haggard perfectionist Jun. K. Because if you listen to the song that is full of the music he wants to show, you can’t help but feel his passion towards it. Then what about “Go Crazy” and “Hot,” the songs with exploding beat and a rising rhythm that excite us in an instant. There’s no doubt that he’s an intelligent musician who definitely knows how to entertain people through music. Yet again, if you listen to the calm and sad ballad “Suddenly,” you will automatically imagine the lyrical Jun. K, who expresses his pure and noble love. I searched for “Jun. K” through a music streaming app, and as I listened to the songs composed and sung by him, I ended up being really curious about Jun. K. His musical world, which Jun. K has accumulated over all this time, is too wide and deep to just know him as 2PM’s main vocalist.

-          It’s been a long while. How have you been?We have completed an arena tour in Japan quite recently, and I also appeared as “Dream of the Square” in “King of Masked Singer.” Right now I’m really busy preparing a new album.
-          Your face grew thinner, and your body got nicer.I think it was around January this year. I felt that my stamina got a lot worse. I’m already at that age, you know (laughs). I’ve had a surgery before because of my weak knee, and it would hurt every time I went for dance practice. I realized this couldn’t continue, and I began training my lower body. As I was doing aerobic exercises, I simultaneously began working on muscular strength, too. I started working with weights only around two months ago. As I was concerned about my health, I ended up cooking my own meals and eating at home. To the point that I found a sweet potato bread recipe on the Internet and made one myself. My stamina has really improved. Shall I say that it feels like the overall energy got healthier?
-          When you look at it, you’re pretty close to thirty.
If you can explain your 10s in around three colors, your 20s could be expressed in around 30,000 hues and tints. I’ve been that busy. I’ve learned a lot and I have lost a lot. As far as it goes for the things I’ve lost, that would be the time with my family, the memories with my friends and other trivial details from your everyday life. As for the things I’ve learned, it’s music and experience. Also, I’ve gained another family called 2PM.
-          I suppose reaching thirty feels different. All this while, I haven’t tried planning and doing something on my own. I was too busy following the arranged schedule. And even so, since I tried protecting my own things, there was a lot of confusion. When I turn thirty, I want to personally take control of my life and live it, while painting the life’s bigger picture in my head.

-          2PM members are famous for their close relationship. Lately, there are a lot of groups that disband, so you look even more special.
We went through a big incident in our early days, and it made our personal bonds stronger and, strictly speaking, the time we’ve spent together has been really long. I have personal reasons, too. A few years ago, when my father passed away, I couldn’t believe it and I didn’t even cry. But when the members arrived at the funeral, the moment our eyes met, suddenly, I burst into tears. That was when I realized how much I relied on my members.

-          As years go by, just like that, various opportunities arise to reevaluate your surroundings. When a person, whom I expected to be always next to me, disappeared in a blink, I realized I couldn’t take anything in this world for granted. Everyone looked different. I grew to be more thankful about the special time we spend together.
image

-          I suppose by now the 2PM members have become your unparalleled friends. How should I put it… We’ve met through our job, but we’re stuck together like high school friends. Wooyoung and I share a similar sense of humor. We often work on music and we go out so we spend a lot of time together. Chansung is the funniest and the most interesting one. He’s my endorphin. Junho is younger, but he’s an assistant-like friend who helps me stay calm. Khun is kind and lovable. He supports everyone quietly thus becoming our strength. Taecyeon is level-headed with leader qualities.

-          The fans know you as Kim Dajeong (T/N: Kim Warm-Heart). What kind of person do you think you are?I do have a warm heart. (laughs) It is important what kind of energy a person oozes, but, if anything, I want to become a person with a positive energy. For example, when you have a filming early in the morning on the weekend, you get tired even more if you meet people with tired faces. Then I spark the atmosphere with a joke. And of course I fail first.

-          Is your character originally bright and positive? There’s this preconceived notion that musicians are lonely and melancholic.I think as a tried, at some point, I did attain such a character. If I send positive energy, the people around me get happier and, likewise, I feel better too. I write music together with my composer friends, and they sometimes say that I have so much energy it drains them (laughs).

-          Even so, what do you do when you feel lonely and depressed?I’d be lying if I said I don’t have days like that. Usually, when I work on a song, I go to the company, and give it for the company’s monitoring personnel to listen. A 30-member monitoring board decides whether the song gets released or not. It’s hard to hear your music judged when you’ve gone through great pains to make it. I used to relieve that stress by having a drink, but if you drink it’s only temporary: the next day it’s just as hard. Lately, I just stay calm and go back to my composing room. I quit drinking, too.

-          However, eventually, your songs “Go Crazy” and “My House” became title songs for 2PM’s albums. You could say you’ve won.
With these two songs, I went to the company just having a sketchy feeling about it, but the reaction was really good. From the musical perspective, “Go Crazy” is better; looking at the music video or choreography and the outfit, taking the entire picture into consideration, I think “My House” suited 2PM’s image better. With both songs, all the members together decided upon the concept after three or four meetings each. At first, “My House” had a reggae melody, but as we created the choreography and shot the music video, it switched into the house style. Although it’s a song I composed, it’s also a song all of us created together.

-          When I listen to the songs with your lyrics, the words “No Love” appear quite often.
It’s somewhat of a symbol I made. When you love and go through breakup, you get hurt by the other person, and yet you also hurt that person, too. Every single time you decide you will never love again. I had such thoughts when I was younger, and I thought that later on, if I make my own songs, I will turn “No Love” into a symbol.

-          Which self-composed song do you like the most?My Japanese solo album title song “No Love” and 2PM’s song “Suddenly.” “Suddenly” is the song I have composed the fastest. 2PM was promoting “Again & Again” back then, and I made it all in a go, recording an audio memo on my phone in a car, improvising the melody and the lyrics. I came up with the lyrics without thinking what I should do, without calculating how I should mix all the musical aspects; I just did what I felt like. Out of all the songs I’ve written so far, that’s the song that contains my most honest feelings. On the contrary, “No Love” is the most calculated song. In this one song, I tried to play with musical, pop ballad, and R&B variations. I was very meticulous up to the stage lighting and performance.

image
-          Just like every child is dear to their parents, you must have a song you feel strongly about. It’s “Go Crazy.” It’s because it was the first time in JYPE’s history that an artist-composed song (and not Jinyoung hyung’s track) became 2PM’s title song. When it was picked as the title song, I called my mom crying. It felt like a dream when I remembered my father who was against my musical path, my mother who supported me in secret and myself who would go to study music clenching the textbook on composition in my high school days. I was happy. However, the results didn’t match the expectations, so it’s a shame.

-          I’m curious about the title song for the next 2PM album.
All the members are working hard on it right now. We’re considering what the general public would like to see from 2PM and what we would like to show everyone.

-          What do the 2PM members want to showcase?
If we have displayed the wild sexiness by ripping our shirts, now that we’re in our late 20s, I think we can showcase a little bit more skilled sexiness. The homework for our members is to figure out how to express such sexiness through music and stage performance.
 image
-          Where do you usually get inspiration for your music?
Whenever I get ideas, I record memos on my phone. If a word comes to mind, I write down a few sentences that fit the word. Some word may have more than two hundred lines of thoughts added to it. I also save a picture or a photo. Later I organize my thoughts looking at it. Ah, last December I went through a crushing calamity when I accidentally deleted the memo in my phone. I was so devastated I drank for two days straight.

-          Were you inspired by something lately?
There’s a playground in front of the composing room, and as I stared at the slide closely, I thought it would be fun to try and express it musically. It’s also a medium that helps you remember your childhood. The slide’s form is also a little bit like woman’s curves, you know. I think it would also be interesting to associate it with the English word “Slide.”

-          I think the fans are always curious about trivial details. Like, whether your dogs are doing fine, or what kind of coffee you like.A while ago, I’ve sent them to a training facility for some potty training. Also, I used to drink a lot of coffee, but it felt like my throat was getting drier, so I quit it. Lately, I boil calamondin and drink it. It’s a fruit from the Philippines that contains more Vitamin C than lemon, and it’s really sour. However, now that I drink it constantly, even if I sing a lot, I don’t have a hoarse throat.

image
-          What are you hooked on lately?Living according to a plan. I’m absorbed in making daily plans and sticking to them. When I exercise, when I should sleep, stuff like that. However, there’s a problem. If I stick to the plan, composing gets cut off abruptly.

-          I suppose following a tight schedule is not an easy task for an artist.
I once started composing at around seven in the evening and then completed it at 11 PM the next day. It’s not good for health, but it feels great to be so much into music. Last year I led an irregular life like that, just following my gut feeling, and because of that I lost my stamina. It’s hard to find the golden mean.

-          How do you spend your day when you are off work?
When I don’t have any shooting or concert, I spend my time working on music. Say, if I don’t have anything to do, I want to go to a swimming pool. Ah, I also want to travel. To Switzerland.

-          There are many fans who are disappointed about the lack of your activities in Korea.
Last year I released solo album “Love Letter” in Japan and had a concert tour. I had more chances to show my music. I also worked a lot with other artists, but I think that in Korea there are still many people who don’t know what Jun. K’s music is like. I must try and showcase myself more in the country.

-          I heard you’re about to release a solo album in Korea.
How do you know that? It’s still a secret.
-          Please introduce your new album.
It has an R&B base, but it’s a style that no one really tries in Korea. When I first went with it to the company, mostly the reaction was that it’s unfamiliar and strange, but Jinyoung hyung really liked it. He said it was excellent to the point he had nothing to add from the musical perspective. I am confident because it’s a song that contains my individuality, music, and the view of the world. And I can’t tell you anything else. They asked me repeatedly not to spoil anything at the company. (laughs)

[TRANS] 2PM Vogue Japan June 2016 Interview

THE STORY CONTINUES
Shofukutei Tsurube, one of the most popular entertainers in Japan, and 2PM, an artist representing South Korea. It might seem they’re a combination that you won’t expect but these two figures have developed a deep relationship over the years. 2PM even appeared on Tsurube’s radio show as guests.
For today’s interview, Tsurube-san prepared a carefully thought-out handwritten list of his thoughts about the songs from the album and his impressions going to 2PM’s concerts. Seeing that, the members were moved.
NK: Please let us call you “Father”!
Tsurube: I’ll listen to everything that can make you happy the most. With the experiences you gained until now, I think you can manage it even without asking me. But it’ll bring us closer if we listen.
JK: We are very grateful to you.
Tsurube: Because I believe it’s important that you think about the person you’re talking to and find out more about them. Even in interviews, dramas, movies and stages.
NK: We always do our best when preparing concerts in our own style but seeing Tsurube-san being so prepared for us like this, I’m now reflecting if I can really say that “we really did our best.”
WY: Tsurube-san, which part of the concert do you think is entertaining?
Tsurube: In 2PM concerts, you all talk in Japanese even without translators, right? I think that’s really amazing. You also use dialect depending which region you are. That’s impressive as well. Also, Taecyeon says a lot of unnecessary things, right?
2PM: (laughs out loud)
Tsurube: Then Jun. K and Junho would try to get back, right? But sometimes, Junho would give up.
2PM: (laughs out loud)
Tsurube: Taecyeon is very essential in 2PM concerts. And the thing called “incidents” in 2PM is because of the Japanese language, isn’t it?
2PM: (laughs out loud)
Tsurube: I should not be a nuisance to the fans. That’s why I just quietly go whenever I go to your concerts. But when our eyes meet, I get very happy! Then at the end of the concert, you would mention my name. I get surprised! I don’t have any mic and I don’t know what I should do. (laughs) I get startled but I’m happy. I appreciate it when you keep adding more adlibs to your talk and I also appreciate the kindness of all members to make everyone enjoy the concert. While watching 2PM’s stage, I admire so much how each member’s personality comes out really well. It’s fun to see that. When you start singing, you give it all. When there are “incidents,” it’s amusing. That is what we call “entertainment.”
JK: I am deeply moved to see how you feel a lot of different things while watching our concert.
Tsurube: 3 hours.. rather than watching without thinking anything, I watch and learn from different situations and even from your weird conversations.  Being professional is the capability of coping with “incidents.” That’s why I came up with “Sujinashi,” a variety show in TBS where we make an impromptu drama with an actor. Acting with no rules but there’s a theme. Last time we did “Two persons in a store window.” From the viewers’ request, the actress would come out from the audience while I start from standing in front of the store window. That actress came up on the stage from the audience seat while on a state of being totally blind and hit me gently. She was still a young actress but I was surprised. I was interviewed by that person while performing “Sujinashi.” You must enjoy the stage! Enjoying the stage is absolutely important. Entertainment is having fun and being loved.
CS: Given this opportunity, I have something to ask to Tsurube-san. Please tell us the key of doing activities in various genre such as being a host, actor and comic storyteller.
Tsurube: 2PM members are amazing, so someone like me has nothing to say. But for me, what I value is having a mindset of “If you have reached your goal, that’s just the beginning.” For example, if 2PM’s album ranked no. 1, that’s the starting point. You aim much higher. I started doing comic storytelling at the age of 50. Since comic storytelling is floundering, my seniors told me to do it. I did it in a huge venue and made it to the point where you can’t get tickets anymore. You may think that storytelling is just coming out from gilded folding screens and doing it, but you spend a great amount of money on stage. So it’s important to make the people who come and watch it realize that. I want to reform the storytelling. When I reach the peak I’m aiming for, I’ll head for the next step. I just keep doing that same cycle. That’s why it goes on forever.
JH: I want to learn from your genuine attitude and passion when it comes to work.
Tsurube: I don’t know if you have this saying in Korea, but here in Japan we have this idiom “fall into lap,” which means having an opportunity you didn’t expect. But if you don’t work hard until that opportunity comes, it won’t come. There are times when it only comes to people who work hard for it. That’s how I think of it.
CS: I try not to regret my choices, even if it brings a not-so-good result to myself. I fear and worry about some things, but after hearing Tsurube-san, I want to do my best not to have any regrets with my own choices. I feel like I gained some courage.
Tsurube: If I were to have two options, I choose the more difficult one. There’s an idiom in Japanese, “After a storm comes a calm.” There’s something definitely better after every hardship. Even if you encounter several troubles, you are heading to a much better direction in the end. It’s something I have realized while living for 64 years.
WY: Do you have any advice for us who are still in our 20’s?
Tsurube: My 20’s was a complete mess (laughs)
2PM: (laughs)
Tsurube: But for some reasons, people think of me as a very diligent man. I wonder why it has become like that. Maybe because I’ve never betrayed someone.
TY: I heard that your youth is like Junho’s. Is that true?
Tsurube: That would be rude to Junho. (laughs)
JH: No~ no~ (laughs)
Tsurube: My son is like Junho though. Me -> my son -> Junho
NK: I’ve once worked with your son in a drama.
Tsurube: Oh, that’s right! In a show “Kazoku ni Kanpai” (Salute to Families) in NHK, I met someone by chance who has a photo of me during my high school days. In that picture, I look like Junho.
TY: In conclusion, Tsurube-san looks like Junho! (laughs) After 40 years, Junho will become Tsurube-san!
NK: Can I also ask a question?
Tsurube: Oh, Nichkhun~ Do you have any?
NK: Tsurube-san who is full of curiosity, what is your secret to keep on smiling all the time?
Tsurube: Youth is having interest in various stuff. Also, it might be different since all of you are good-looking, but for me, it’s better to laugh. When I was having a photoshoot for a front cover of a magazine, the photographer tried to bring out a different expression of me than my usual one. He took a lot of shots of my grim expression. Seriously a lot! But in the end, I asked “Can I smile?” He took only one photo of me smiling. And that is the one we used.
2PM: (laughs out loud)
TY: Aahh~ There are times like that, isn’t it? I totally understand!
JH: I know that you are very busy. How do you take care of your health?
Tsurube: No matter how tiring it is, I practice properly for my storytelling. I’m doing a classical comic story entitled “Rakuda” for 1 hour and 20 minutes the day after tomorrow. When I was about to sleep last night, I felt uneasy, so I practiced one more time. That’s how I manage my own health.
JK: I am reflecting upon that right now
Tsurube: If I had to dance just like what you do, I can’t do that. You all sing, dance and speak in Japanese. Even if I were told to do storytelling in Korean, I wouldn’t be able to do it. Absolutely impossible. One of my pupils does storytelling in Korean. He lives in Japan so originally, he can’t really speak the Korean language well. But since that is the language of his native country, I told him to learn to speak it. And now, he can speak in Korean.

Tsurube: It was the year 1980 when I first went to Korea. They treated me very well. Though it’s a neighboring country, it feels different to actually go there. I’m still good friends with the person from Korea University who helped me with interpreting. The Koreans that I met with my own eyes are all wonderful people. When it comes to getting along with someone from another country, I think it will be hard to do if you don’t open yourself up especially because there are things like language barrier. That’s also why I send some gifts in 2PM’s dressing room. I find it fun when I think of what Japanese food does 2PM like to eat. I think of things like “When they come to Hokkaido, I’ll send them this.” Recently, I found out that Jun. K likes sushi, so from takoyaki, I changed it to sushi. (laughs) I do this because I like doing it. I do this with my whole heart because I want to get along with all of you, and I also want you to know that Japanese are like this.
JK: We are always very grateful to you.
Tsurube: Since there is a military service in Korea, I think Jun. K and Taecyeon are about to go. After coming back from the army, I would want to see 2PM again standing on stage. (Editor’s note: It was announced that “GALAXY OF 2PM” Arena Tour which started from April 23 would be temporarily the last tour with 6 members.) Even though you won’t be on stage for about 2 years, won’t there be a new strength once you come back? Being together as 6 means being extremely strong. Stronger than being alone. Each one of you is strong by himself as well. But when united, it’s very powerful because it releases a different strength. That’s how 2PM was formed. I think it would be a waste if you don’t continue it for a long time.
TY: It’s making me sad little by little………
JK: As a matter of fact, what you have just said is what I am thinking about the most right now.
Tsurube: Although the “height” of popularity is also important, the “length” is much more important in the world of show business. It’s about how you last long.
JH: Today, for me and also for everyone else, we are really glad that we could meet Tsurube-san during this essential time. My dream is to continue doing this job for as long as I can. After listening to Tsurube-san, I’ve made a new goal.
WY: We don’t often get opportunities like this. So today has become a precious gift to all of us. Thank you very much.

[TRANS] 2PM INTERVIEW - BAILA MAY 2016

You are today’s “lucky girl"♥
What do you want… them to do?

SELFISH AS YOU WANT FOR 2PM
Their nationwide tour "GALAXY OF 2PM” starts April 23rd. Though they are always highly busy, 2PM will be exclusively yours today! “I want to meet them for real!” is unreasonable, therefore the members undertake all of your this and that selfishness!

image

Selfishness 1

I want to see them at a distance of zero! (After all, I like all 6 of them)

You said you want to see us? Great! Let’s meet after the performance!
You’ll really meet 2PM♥

“We warmly welcome your pestering!”

image

Selfishness 2
(In 6 ways by 6 people…)

I want to be pampered by the members♥

“Come here! We’ll pamper you lotssss”

Cute offense and defense having to do with “you” unfolds from the 6 beasts

image

They answered with a surplus of smiles to your cutely selfish “I want to be pampered by the 6 of them!” The 6 wrapped in lovely clothes must escort “you” and enclose your hand with theirs. Now then, which member grabbed hold of your heart?

"Whoa, cute!“ The members broke into smiles and called out as soon as the little girl appeared at the studio. "How old are you?” (Junho), “What is the mademoiselle’s name?” (Nichkhun), “I’m Hello! Kitty’s older brother♥” (Jun. K).
It was an unimaginable transformation from the cool expressions they had while filming just minutes before. Even the tone of voice they spoke to her with was unusually sweet. “Come here” (Chansung), “Who do you want to link arms with? Me?” (Taecyeon), “What do you want your older brother to be like? I’ll buy ice cream for you later” (Wooyoung), “Look, it’s okay if you touch your older brother’s fluffy hair!” (Jun. K); everyone desperately tried to appeal to her. Without delay they seriously attempted to divert their rivals(?) by inputting “This older brother’s hair is dirty, so you can’t touch it~ (laugh)” (Junho) and “Don’t you like chocolate more than ice cream?”(Taecyeon).
All 6 of them kept trying to lift the little girl’s spirits! They let us see their gentleness in casually but swiftly brushing the dust off the stand when she made to sit down on it (Chansung), when filming was over, we filmed skin-ship in the form of a high touch after saying “Good job!” (Nichkhun), and when one patted his knees and said “Do you want to sit here?” (Jun. K). The beasts were like gentlemen from beginning to end, pampering the little girl (a.k.a you) and bathing her in their love.

image

Chansung: “Let’s split it evenly”

Jun. K: “I’m going to try my best to do a magic trick for you”
Nichkhun: “Here you go, Princess”
Junho: “Glass slippers suit you perfectly”
Wooyoung: “We became paparazzi!”
Taecyeon: “How old do I look?”

Jun. K
Jun. K appealed to her with his skills sometimes in magic, sometimes by completely turning into a certain popular cat character. “I actively tried various topics, but she was indifferent……. Since she was surrounded by many adults, maybe she had become shy? I wanted her to look at me more.”

Junho
Junho’s self-confident expression belied his hidden emotions. “Did I do well? She’s cute like an angel, but she’s soft and small. It seemed she would fly off if I were to even breathe heavily, so I was nervous throughout.”

Taecyeon
“I asked her earlier how old I look and she said ‘46 years old’ (laugh). It was shocking.” Perhaps engendered by Taecyeon’s papa-like sense of security, she even reported to him about her baby teeth that came out. He sweetly cheered her up saying, “Did it hurt? Pain, pain, go away!”

Chansung
“Maybe it’s because of the clothes or because of our difference in age, but I feel like I’ve become Leon (protagonist of movie "Leon: The Professional”) (laugh). I must protect this child from the scary guy (Wooyoung waiting for his turn to film) on the other side of the camera!“ The little girl gazed at the soft-hearted maknae, smiling.

Nichkhun
"Watching her recalled memories of my younger sisters who are in Thailand. I loved to touch my younger sisters’ cheeks. They were soft like marshmallows,” he said while gently touching the cheeks of the girl in front of him. “Say, why are you so cute?”

Wooyoung
Before filming, Wooyoung said, “I’m confident that I’ll be able to get the closest to her out of the 6 of us.” “I got a feeling that she wouldn’t look in my direction if I were to try talking to her. I said 'I’ll buy you ice cream,’ but I guess you can’t underestimate kids. A woman’s heart is tough…….”

image

Selfishness 3 (Resolve your work-related worries together♥)

I want to be with 2PM for 24 hours!

9:30am
Writing up a document
Seems hard…
Let me help you!!

Nichkhun
When I go to work, there is a huge amount of assignments on my desk for me to do immediately. I was crestfallen when Nichkhun appeared before me. “What if you think about it like this? ’A person whose life is easy cannot mature.’ When you have gone through tough and painful things, you are able to become a bigger person. Even if you want to escape your current situation, please try your best for a little longer. A good result will soon come. I believe you will be able to sincerely feel that you have grown up a bit while experiencing that kind of thing.” Nichkhun’s kind words pierce my heart. “Truthfully, I want to give you something other than just words. I want to fix you a meal after you’ve returned home exhausted, warm your body by making coffee or tea, and give you a massage.” It feels like I could try my best for a whole day just imagining it!

10:15am
Where are you looking?
Pay attention to the screen, not me!

Junho
Even after I’ve become the center position… work is somehow not progressing……. Just then, up pops Junho on top of the PC screen! “When someone tells you 'You’re doing well’ about work, it’s half pleasing and half scary. It feels like you won’t continue maturing if you relax thinking you’ve done well enough. Therefore, I always dedicate myself to work harder than I think I can. I think, what is important for myself right now, what I am lacking, and what I really want to do. Since they say the average human is only able to use 20% of the brain’s ability, I fervently keep my aim on breaking that limit (laugh). I may be tired, but I’m pleasantly tired. Because even if it’s insufficient, I must keep overcoming obstacles.” Only Junho has the persuasive power to have come this far by turning numerous chances into something real. I won’t let myself lose, either!

11:40am
It will be lunch break pretty soon
Take a breather, then keep working!

Wooyoung
At the start of a new year the number of kouhai (juniors in the company) increases, and work increases. The time to enjoy your hobbies regrettably lessens. When you open your drawer with a sigh, Wooyoung comes flying out! “When your environment has changed, let your body go with the flow without dreading the change more than necessary. Rather than forcing yourself to go with the flow, if you allow yourself to observe how you ride the flow, you will come to see what you must do. If you do that, you’ll be able to do well! Coincidentally, I recently changed the way I enjoy my hobbies. I thought that I should enjoy them as much as possible, without overdoing it. I’ve been hooked on listening to LP records, but when I don’t have time I will just listen to the single song I’m most interested in. However, even if I only have a short period of free time it will become a time of replenishment for me. Isn’t it important to give yourself some leeway in order to enjoy something you like especially at a hectic time?”

12:15am
Relax relax!
…Let’s listen to music together♪
Jun. K
My superior got mad at me again…… Perhaps because I was down and not facing my work, Jun. K, who was holding onto the MP3 player, said something. “When I come upon an obstacle, I try thinking back to why I chose to do this (line of work) when I originally started. When you recklessly work and study, the meaning of doing that kind of thing can’t be found and you will become excessively tired. If you have somewhat of an understanding of what kind of goal you want to achieve, then you won’t come to know exhaustion just like me! Dreams are the motivational power behind living. I have a dream that my songs will be able to reach everyone. Therefore, even when I exhausted all my strength and passed out asleep in the studio after continuously writing music for 30 hours straight before recording, I was happy (laugh).” While listening to the music of Jun. K who isn’t negligent about working hard, try recalling your initial motivation.

1:00pm
Ah, you found me!
This is delicious~

Taecyeon
Every day is somehow a change for the better. When I look for my shoes thinking it might be a good time for a snack, Taecyeon had eaten it all! “For some reason, in springtime I feel like I’m the only one left out though everyone else is changing. I’m the same. I spend most of the day inside a building, so it always ends up feeling stuffy. At times like those I weave in breaks from work so that I can gaze at the sea or climb a mountain. I receive encouragement from going to places that are different from the usual. Since I recently had eyesight recovery surgery, it’s nice to be able to see scenery well. I guess it would be difficult for OL (office ladies) working in the city to go afar. If that’s so, then you can certainly be refreshed by taking in the outside air on the roof of the office or at a neighboring park.

2:00pm
"OK! We’ll become 'Miniature 2PM’ and always be with you!”

9:00pm
Go ahead and drink up.
You worked hard again today!
Go home now~

Chansung
Even though I understand work can end late, my indecisive self is just confused. Overtime again today, huh? ……When I reach over to grab the nourishment drink I bought in the morning, Chansung is there! “Should I buy or should I refrain, should I walk or should I run, will my voice carry to people who will be interested or will it not? Life is a series of daily confusions, but in my experience, no matter what I choose it won’t make that much of a difference. Even if I think I may have made a mistake, the difference in result is not that major. Rather, the time it takes worrying over what to do is the bigger problem. Time slips away as you worry, among other things. ……So, I’m telling you something rational, but I was a person who had a lot of anxiety and worries in the past (laugh). In other words, it’s fine!”

Selfishness 4 A sexy face, please♥

Make my heart flutter!

“I’ll make a promise for this galaxy. You and I will be together for eternity.” - Jun. K
“I will definitely make you happy because you lighted my future for me.” - Nichkhun
“Prepare yourself. Because I’m going to hug you before going on a trip.” - Chansung
“Without averting your eyes, come along with me. I won’t let you regret it.” - Junho
“I’m not the only one who is always drowning in your charms.” - Wooyoung
“Up to now and forever, you have been my support. I hope you will wait for me.” - Taecyeon

Even for just a little bit, I want us to be together inside this “galaxy.”

April 23 marks the start of 2PM’s nationwide arena tour 2016 “GALAXY OF 2PM,” as well as the release of their 5th album in Japan “GALAXY OF 2PM.” While we inquired into 2PM’s highly successful music promotions of tours and albums over the past 6 years, the 6 of them talked to us about “Us during that time” and “The future of us.”

—What is the meaning behind “GALAXY” for both the tour and album?
Taecyeon (hereafter TY): It means that us, the staff, and all the fans are together inside a single galaxy.
Junho (hereafter JH): It’s the embodiment of our feeling that we want to get closer and closer.
TY: The concerts and album are works containing the emotions we want to reach everyone in the limited time remaining.
JH: Although I can’t go into detail about the contents of the concert…… We won’t let you regret it (grin).
Nichkhun (hereafter NK): Since there are songs made by the members in the album, perhaps……♥
—Right, there are several works in the album that the members had a hand in creating, etc.
JH: That’s correct. There’s “The Time We Spent Together” that I made, and the song Chansung wrote…… What was it?
Chansung (hereafter CS): Hey, hey (laugh). It’s “Shining Star.”
JH: Only for GALAXY. Furthermore, the ones Taecyeon wrote…….
TY: “Don’t Forget” and “Teaser.” Please guess where my heart is at from the titles…… boohoo hoo (tears).
Wooyoung (hereafter WY): I made “Souzou Shite Mite (Imagine)” which is a positive song.
Jun. K (hereafter JK): My songs are already…….
TY: (singing My House) Heya~ ni kite konya♪
JK: (laugh). That and?
TY: (singing HIGHER) Shoujiki maji kimi no toriko♪
JK: !! (high fives TY)
JH: Taecyeon is a big fan of 2PM. Though he’s a member (laugh).
—Now, when the tour is finished you guys will go on a bit of a break as a group.
CS: The main activities for each of us will be solo promotions. Maybe you could say each of us will be embarking on a galaxy trip.
TY: See you later! (laugh)
JK: Not limited to only this time, but we of 2PM always feel that us members and the fans will be together for eternity. Our feelings for the fans are not false.
Everyone minus JK: (nodding)
WY: It’s lonely and unfortunate that we won’t be able to see everyone frequently, but we will unchangingly be the very best as per usual.

The 5 years Baila continued watching over their maturation

—Baila has followed 2PM for around 5 years. Are there any interviews that left an impression on you?
JK: That long already? (putting his hands together) Thank you.
NK: (looking at their first appearance in the January 2012 issue) We took this at an office building, right?
JK: I remember it was a salaryman setting. I remember it well…… rather, I haven’t been able to forget it even though I tried (laugh).
NK: Yup. During filming, the older men from the company watched us side-eyed. Since we had never visited a regular company in Japan yet in those days, it left a deep impression.
CS: Because we didn’t have much experience being the focus of people our fathers’ age (laugh).
—Around 20 years old, you all wore salaryman outfits for us, but we received the opinion that you looked like high schoolers from some of the readers.
CS: Ahh, that was about Wooyoung and Junho (laugh).
TY: At that time, Wooyoung and Junho weren’t men yet.
NK: They were babies.
WY: …… Babuu. [t/n: “Babuu” is a noise babies make, equivalent to “goo goo gaga”]
CS: It’s okay. You’re proper men now (laugh).
JH: What should I do. I can’t look directly at myself from that time period. It’s too embarrassing…….
—Which member has changed the most?
JH: Aren’t I the one who lost the most weight? (laugh) If I were to answer seriously, i feel like my sense of responsibility increased after my solo project started. Compared to how I was in the past, I now try to understand things myself.
TY: Personally, I think I’m the one who changed the most, though…….
JK: Your demeanor became softer. Also, your fashion sense [changed].
NK: You’ve certainly stopped dumbfounding us.
TY: Please say I’ve become refined! However, Jun. K changed, too. His personality has gotten calmer.
JK: The communication between the 6 of us has gotten softer and we’ve gotten better at team work.
TY: The time we have spent together is most likely what has enabled us to have the kind of relationship where we are able to understand each other’s personalities. I’m sure we will continue having this kind of relationship!

They’re full of things they want to do with the fans for the next 50 years

—Are you becoming the ideal selves you imagined 5 years ago?
JK: It feels like our dreams have been piling up piece by piece while being absorbed in every day living. Just having been able to debut is still a major unbelievable thing for us to this day.
WY: Hmm……. Every time the trend changes in music and fashion, we go with the flow. We’re similar to that sense in that we continue to ride the wave of change.
NK: I was more pessimistic than everyone else because around the time of our debut, I had no idea of what would happen in the future. However, a lot of people came to love us and I received a lot of happiness from everyone.
—As the tour will temporarily be the last with all 6 of you, please give a message to the fans.
TY: That’s certainly the plan, but we will keep going on.
JK: That’s right. Even after 50 years have passed I will keep greeting you!
TY: What kind of greeting? (laugh)
JK: That’s just how many things I want to do in the future.
NK: After the tour I will come back to meet you all in Japan.
JH: Me as well. I’m the summer guy, after all.
CS: Me too, since I have to see the summer guy with my own eyes (laugh).
TY: First, please listen to our album a lot. I think the meanings and messages we put into the album will reach you.
WY: For example?
TY: Um…… things like, come to my house tonight?
WY: (like he’s given up) Sigh…….
JK: Even though you live with your parents? (laugh)
JH: Anyway, please listen to the album. And let’s meet at the concert!
